I have a question that hopefully someone can help me out with. When analyzing my Competitors for a certain Niche I look for things like age, number of links, and PR. I'll also check how many people use my Keyword in Title and URL.

My question is when I research a Niche say for example:

"dog washing shampoos"

And the #1 Site has 16 backlinks in Yahoo and 4 in Google with a PR 0.

And the #2 Site has 1800 backlinks in Yahoo and 32 in Google with a PR 4.

How should I interpret these results? The results here are a bit confusing. I can easily beat out Site #1 but Site #2 might take awhile. But why would Site #2 beat out Site #1. It's not really clear to me.

every 10 minutes, SERPs can be changed. I do not have a sure reason why this happened. It might be depending on the site content not only about the number of backlinks and PR.

if you wants to check backlinks than check in google webmaster. it will show all external links. To checking competitor links that use free tool online-utility.org, best tool to checking backlinks of any one.

yahoo and google is showing different different result while checking link, don't be stress, google has own algorithm and yahoo has its own algorithm.

There are various factors which determine the ranking of the website.Besides the backlinks (which should be quality links) the content quality also plays an important role in increasing the rank in google or yahoo.

This was just hypothetical. My question was really how can a site with less backlinks and PR beat out a Site with more backlinks and more PR? I never took Content into consideration.

Backlinks is not the only basis of SERP. Besides, you can't rely on the backlinks shown on such search like link:www.domain.com since Google (I think even Yahoo!) don't show the actual number of counted backlinks for each website

Content is still a factor, maybe the keyword is much accurate in that particular site than the other one that have high PR and more backlinks.

Telx is right... yahoo and google is showing different different result while checking link, and if you want to check your backlinks, webmaster and linkvendor tools is best option for you....

Accuracy matters most. Not in all aspects the site that has high PR and huge amount of backlinks are number one.

It is a matter of which one the search engine considers the more relevant for a given query based on their ranking factors.

The total backlink count or PR shown by tools are just partial or false glimpses of the factors considered and these are being tweaked and changed all the time. So, tomorrow the results might be different.

I think its content are most relevant and it may be new site and sandboxed...

Yeah its in the relevancy of the content with the certain keyword. Low Pr sites have the chance to be number one on the SERP rankings.

@tlex, thnx for sharing about this tool. even i have come across a back lik checker tool called as analyze backlinks.

the other thing, any search engine cannot rank only on the basis of the back links, it also check the content, the keywords, the site linking structure, navigation and many other things. Its the crawler which only checks the site from its perspective and checks along with the Google guidelines... so better not to assume only backlinks..

As per my view it not only depend upon the number of links which you have in Google and yahoo. In SERP it only measure how much quality links you will get form related niche sites. So it's all possible to beat 1 or 2 both the sites, By taking only quality links but not numbers of link.
