Initially you need to start keyword research, i.e which keywords you want to target your website to appear in search engines. Optimize your website for those keywords and try submitting your website to google manually through webmaster tools along with xml sitemap. Try the following tips. This would definitely help:

1-social networks (myspace, facebook, twitter, linkedin and using to other social media.)

2- social bookmarks (digg, delicious, and other social bookmarking sites.)

3- directory submission

4- RSS submission

5- blog commenting

6- forum marketing ( participating in relevant forums)

7- using different one way link building techniques

HI, You just need to have quality content to get better back link and PR for your web site as well but a SEO strategy can help you better to work and get backlink.

Also, it is not about the number of inbound links, but also how your website is configured and the quality and the age of the sites that are linking to you.

Fresh content is vital, I would recomend that half your day should be spent updating your site with fresh and unique content, Google and other search engines value more websites with unique content rather than old content that has been rehashed.

Do agree that now a days all the forums where in instead of taking active participation, its all about spamming and more spamming. Its better if most of the SEO get up from their sleep and know something real about SEO.

Getting rank can be a real job, majority of the work lies in content quality, niche, site age, inbound/outbound links, seo, daily traffic, traffic quality, audience demographics, page load speed, server uptime/downtime and a few other important aspects.
Focusing on quality content and clean PR links to your sites on-top of proper seo tactics usually does it for me, but again letting the site age will obviously require patience. Unless of course, you have some sort of script that automates everything but with that you would lose quality and risk being blacklisted altogether. So for me its relevancy, hardwork and patience for rank.
