Just started a new forum and want to also generate traffic/members on a slow forum.

start off by doing the basics such as submitting to search engines and directory's. make sure you got good seo and of course link to other sites.

if your a new forum you need to make sure that you have posts and a couple of active members, whether yourself or freinds.

Hi, I totally agree. First build a quality site, once it's built take as much time to bring in organic traffic. Always be posting your url to new sites, keep them relevant to your own website...and all will be good.

Forums are one of the hardest things to get going. There is tons and tons of information out there on how to build a successful one.

When you first start out you have no members and no posts. If people visit a forum with very few posts they are less inclined to join.
Hiring a posting service to get a decent foundation laid is not a bad idea. Have your friends come in and post some too.
One of the biggest mistakes I've seen when people are trying to grow a fledgling forum, is filling it with useless posts. Just having words on your forum isn't going to provoke someone to sign up.
You need quality information.

lol the thread was started in 2005. Anyways I wouldn't suggest promoting an empty forum with PPC to anyone who's reading this

Try to advertise in other big forums that will give you alot of traffic as well as members...

If you want to boost the traffic of your forum, participate in social bookmarking and networking sites. You should make other things in the forum like newsletter, photo page, etc. where visitors can sign up to. Make it as interesting as possible.

Starting a forum you need lots of hard work and time to make it grow faster and live long..

Considering that this was bumped by a spammer, and this thread is over 4 years old, I dobut the OP cares any more For future readers: create some posts under various user names to make the forum seem a bit more active and just go around to related sites and see if you can't get an advertising spot for cheap, also build up a reputation through articles, etc. and with all that comes links for SEO purposes.
