I suppose forum spamming isn't a good idea because they'll just remove the link and/or ban the link dropper.

What is your contest about and what do people have to do to win?

Find places to post where people are discussing contests and as chrishirst mentioned, spamming is never a good idea. Be sure to follow the rules of any site you post on.

The contest will start Sunday 1st May and will go on until May 8th. The top three highest posters in that time will win cash prizes as well as a special prize for the best poster. Link to more info is in my sig

I do have a Twitter account for my forum that i haven't used in a while. I could post on there actually, try and bring it back to life

You need to get more members first before doing this type of contest. You have only a little over 300 members now so probably only a few will participate.

Well its not a massive amount of money that i'll b giving away so i'm not too bothered. I just want to make the most of it.

You do realise that you will only get a temporary boost while the contest is running.
Once it is over they will all disappear into the woodwork and never post again.

There are several of webmaster forums that have boards where you can post contests.

This will most definitely be the case for the majority of members that participate. But i have had two members that have signed up and told me that they will stay on after the contest. They have both been very active on the forum so far, so it'll be interesting to see whether they do stay.
