Hello SEO experts,

.gov and .edu are highly valuable to Google. I've been researching on how to get backlinks from quality .gov and .edu sites and how difficult it is to do so.
There are websites claiming they are able to get hundreds of backlinks from .gov and .edu and it is pretty much easy by XSS markups on their sites.

Also by commenting and posting on their blogs and forums in relevant topics to your niche.

Is this true? I think this is good because we can place siglinks on their sites.

Wouldn't these sites have no-follow attribute to their links?

No it's called spamming and will simply get you banned!

The best way for me is Link Exchange. just contact them and try to negotiate.

I have to agree with Chris, .edu and .gov links are worthless (or just the same as any other). How do I know this?....Because my PR 0 pages outrank all of that **** you're talking about...Trust me...

Even with solid evidence against it, the amateur brain washed mindless sheep SEO gurus are still going to believe and preach that .edu and .gov links hold massive amounts value/weight on Google.

The .gov and .edu sits might have all the links as "nofollow" or do not accept links at all. Plus, just like Chris have said, for comments with links you will be banned as soon as possible.

Yeah there are many .gov and .edu sites tht have provision to add comment and give backlinks . But on the other hand Google ,moniters links in these sites extensivly via. its algorithms to check for un-relevency . So be carefull !

Ask yourself, how often do you visit such sites. And what about search engines? I also do not think the domains like these are any worthy of backlinks putting efforts

OKay, Google themselves have stated that .edu and .gov links aren't particularly valuable but I prefer to go on some vague rumour first heard on a messageboard that doesn't exist anymore. Tomorrow's article will be on the importance of links in unrelated forums signatures for targeted traffic.

it could help in terms of link diversity if you have all .com backlinks and now you get a few .gov or watnot but generally speaking it makes no real difference.

But it sounds so plausible that .edu and .gov backlinks carry more weight! We are just going to have to accept that most people will believe the beautiful theory rather than the ugly facts.

The .edu backlinks, and the .gov ones are best,
They carry more weight, than all of the rest,
You'll get rich by spamming, you know that is true,
Spam .edu and .gov blogs, whatever you do!

BTW In the Matt Cutts video, did you notice how shifty he looks? He is clearly prevaricating in order to spread disinformation. It might be safer to believe the exact opposite of what he says!

Ok everybody. I am running an experiment on this. I really can not quantify this. But, I will compare blog comments and in context backlinks from .edu blogs.

So, how will it work out? I don't know. I have seen good results from these blogs. But this may be because these are high Page Rank blogs.

And most of the links I have added are in context. IN context links are much better than blog comment links.

So, are these links worth it? Yes..they are but it may be just because they are high PR links. Not because they are edu links.

I outrank many edu websites. So these are in no way the "holy grail" of link value. But, it may be worth paying attention to in terms of link value and diversity.

If I see any crazy results from this, I will post results.

To prove my point, I just may do that. But I really do not want to give out the exact phrases I am targeting. And if I gave out my blog url's, they would be flooded by spammers.

But I will do my best to give out info that will prove my point. Just let me think of a way...I am trying after all. I try to do things for the good of the community, but it's not always that easy.

Many of the things I post in this experiment will probably consist mainly of my opinion. But it will be my honest opinion. And their will probably be no way to quantify it.

I'm trying though...just give me a second.

I am not an expert, but I am reading some blogs on this edu and gov. thing and their promotions on this free quality back links, and even give some sample lists for us to try, but when you want more lists then they will give you a link that you need to check on and yes you can get those lists after you order and purchase those lists ($97). Well, I am not sure if it really work and I am not going to gamble unless somebody can prove its effectiveness.
