No they won't.
Google apply "penalties" to pages or sites that are attempting to subvert their ranking algorithm, if they penalised pages or site for having "a lot of links", directories owners would not be able to waffle on about their SGB PR, because they would not have any.
Wikipedia has lots of links, to their own pages and to other pages.
DMOZ has lots of links.
The Yahoo! directory has "lots of links"
Just about every page on this forum has "lots of links".
Twitter has "lots of links".
Digg has "lots of links".

So much of the prevailing "wisdom" is contradicted by just about everything on the Internet, all it takes if for you to open your eyes and your mind to the idea that the so-called "experts" may just have got it wrong
