alright, i hear people talking about thousands of links pointing to their sites, but after 6 months, i've generated only about 100 permanent links to my site.

what methods can be used for acquiring links? all i've been doing is emailing webmasters with sites that have related content. also, submitted to a few directories.

maybe we can get a thread going where we can list all the methods of getting links, which apparently, i don't know most of?

you must remember that its not about the quantity of links to your site - rather it is the quality... It is more important that your site is linked by sites that complement what you are offering.

....well that's my take on it anyway - im sure that those who are more involved in SEO work can discuss this more!

Quantity also helps, unfortunately. I know sites that benefit from site wide links (100s of links from one site).
