If you're an artist (painter/singer), what do you think is the best online marketing strategy for your products that would yield more sales/income; especially if the artist is on a shoe string budget? Any ideas are highly appreciated.

Hi booney,

The best online marketing strategy for artists is the same as any other marketing strategies.

Do keyword research.

Get a domain name from godaddy or any other provider.

Get a hosting account with hostgator as it makes the next step easier with this particular provider.

Install a wordpress blog.

Write articles targeting your keywords and post them in your blog.

Display your work in your articles.

Do onpage and offpage SEO.

Good luck getting everything right.

Well that was remarkably unhelpful, and no sig links, how curious.

For artistes of any kind, Social Media IS by far and away the best way of marketing and promotion, because much of the social MEDIA is about art in many forms.

For muscians there is Myspace, YouTube and Facebook just to name three. For painters and digital art there is Flikr, FaceBook, Picassa, DeviantArt and many others.

This is the kind of thing that social media is truly about rather than dumbass marketers spamming it for "valuable links"

Target some Good keywords with low or medium competition in your niche and build quality backlinks continuously and this will help you to get a good rank for your designed keywords and get organic traffic.

Consider promoting the services at the relevant web resources. Among the people which would like to use your services.

Chris hit the nail right on the head. Using social media can be very effective. Especially Facebook. Had seen it in the past and seeing it even today. Run a couple of promotion campaigns. Be creative with what you do and things should be fine.

I'd also do a website to call on my own if I were you so that I can showcase my 'works of art' but the website won't be the primary mode of promotion.

This is interesting. If I'm an artist (painter/singer) I would try to promote myself by using marketing tools that would best show my talent.
Video marketing through Youtube, etc. would be good for a singer.
As for a painter, try using Photo sharing sites. Make sure you watermark your work.

i would like to suggest Email marketing which is an extremely cost-effective marketing tool and when used properly, can catapult your sales to new levels. Whether your business is found solely online or is a mom-and-pop store whose greatest technology is the thirty-year-old cash register, your business can benefit from email marketing. In this age of high technology, you can use email almost as an automated marketing staff member. Email can be used to turn those with no interest in your product into prospects, prospects into customers, and then follow-up with customers x number of days after a purchase, helping them become a repeat customer.

Correct me if I have misunderstood you, but are you saying that you would spam someone with no interest in a product with information about your product?
I don't care how you dress it up, spam is nasty.

Depends on what you are marketing. You can get t.v. spots with that budget. PPC depends on what it is, but can be effective.

I would add here Social Communication besides Twitter and Facebook - try finding web-resources closely related to your niche, send your PR and news to them - many website-owners publish news sent to then directly if their site is about this subject. Communicate with bloggers who write about the same things, leave your links from your comments - this will bring you traffic if of course your comments don't look spammy.

One of the effective marketing strategy is that not only being like an SEO but you can also use SOCIAL NETWORKING sites that will help you advertise products you want to sell. Facebook is the most famous, but there are more sites that you can register and use.

If I were you, I would start video logging on youtube and trying to build a fan base. You have no idea how many people have made careers in art or anything else for that matter via YouTube. It's absolutely incredible.

It is important to remember that Marketing Strategy is not the same thing as Sales Strategy. You charge both and they have to plan duke in hand. A bright business action equips sales with the accoutrement they charge to sell. It takes everyone and every department within an organization to work together to create a product/service that people want to use.

If you are really great in singing and painting, then I suggest you to create a blog about those topics. Post your singing videos and paintings then simply write small reflections in every paint or song. People will surely related themselves with what you are experiencing. Goodluck!
