Guest blogging can be a great personal outlet, but the writer should always be aware that he or she is a guest and thus should take great care to write and edit to high standards, incorporating knowledge and expertise into all guest posts. Ultimately, guest blogging is valued by the search engines because it requires a little more work and effort from the webmaster.

based on my experience, I need to contact first the blog owner before doing the guess blogging. If he/she accepts my offer then that is the time I need to start creating an article related to his/her niche.

I would not rely on any list of blogs that accept guest bloggers. As many of those probably would not fit your niche anyways. I recommend BlogCatalog (No Affiliation). You can develop relationships with bloggers and overtime you can ask to write a guest post.

Usually you search for your niche blogs and then write a personal emails to the blog owners suggesting them to write some content for them.

TERMS FIRST! I get a lot of referrals from Guest Posting on BLOGS and some article writing. I stick to my expertise topics however to target my niche customer base. However, you must first get your terms down when negotiating and don't write a thing until you understand the terms per se'.

1. Make sure you are able to link your sites, or product, and if so, how many links are allowed?

2. Is this site a dofollow or nofollow with the links?

3. Some may allow 2 linked photos and 2 links etc. Get the terms down, don't be surprised to have them omitted and your 2 hour article was for nothing, and only links you to a profile on their site.

Sometimes if the place allows you to make a profile page with all your links, but not link internally it may also be worth it.

I should clarify that any blog posts you do as a guest will help you in some way. Some will allow you to drive traffic to your site or your product that you are able to promote thereby giving you referrals.

However I also do some blog posts for sake of being able to drop anchor text within a niche topic that will provide a valuable link to my site. If the site is a do-follow link I am more apt to jump on these opportunities first--why you ask? Because when you are trying to build up your site's credibility do-follow links give you a bit more weight than no-follow. So for instance my site is about bbq and I'm posting an article on grills, and this is relevancy 101. Just a thought to ponder as sometimes writing is not about getting DIRECT referrals but also about getting STREET CRED. (That's a nice way of not saying page rank since we hate that word around here ha ha)

Utter crap!

Search engines use the rel="nofollow" NOT people, when REAL people click through THAT is a referal.
But I guess you are one of the "believers" that only search engines send visitors.

I think guest blogging is related to blog commenting. In that we have to put comments related to the post of the blog. We also can put our link in that comment. After approval of moderator we can get benefit of our comment when people find it in blog.
