Hi

How would you feel about using another major search engine, if one were developed?
I'm talking along the lines of Millions of Dollars in investment into the design and development of a large scale search engine, on par with the latest revamp of MSN.com?

Would you use it? Or do you feel too 'attached' to the current search engine you use, whether it be Google, MSN, Ask.com etc? What would be the deciding factors in your decision?

Cast your votes!

I would in a second, that is if it had enough budget to offer commercial adveratising. If not I would consider it just another search engine that indexes a minimal amount of the web.

there are plenty of search engines out their, if you can advertise it well and get it out there, I think I would just stick to google because well im not attached to it, but for now its working perfectly fine and I can't see any "big" enhancement to search engines to really make them better than google...but hey you could always prove me wrong!

I hold no attachment to a seach engine outside of it's performance. I went to google because IMHO it is the best. I would jump again if there was something I saw as better.

I usually use several search engines while im researching for something so if it was decent enough I would probably use. However I dont think there are many people who would switch from their usual search engine unless it was truley brilliant...

I wouldn't use a new search engine if one came up, I'm quite happy with Google and have no reason to use anything else.

I, like many of you probably, use several different search engines. I doubt there will be a NEW search engine that can replace the Yahoos, Googles, or MSNs. But it may be good enough to try out occaisionally when those engines are giving you quite what you wanted.

Most people are in the habit of going to Google to search the web, and habits are hard to break. A new search engine would have to be nothing short of fantastic in order to overtake Google's market share.

Well, if the new search engine has to offer something which is really a revolution, i dont see myself "shifting" to it. Lets say sometimes google results are not as satisfactory as it could be, yet, its the least devil, so i go to it. Plus google has sponsored links stacked away in the side, making the real result easy to access. All these make google the best, or if i may say its sr (SearchRank!) is high. Remember the time when people shifted from yahoo to google just because google searched millions of pages compared to yahoo's thousands, a revolution indeed... Another revolution, another switch.

Google is perfect for me.
A new search engine couldn't get 'major' so easily.
As a result, I wouldn't rush to use it.

We wouldn't have much of a choice. We run advertising campaigns on overture and google. We plan to sign with MSN if they ever decide to get theirs launched in the US.

Furthermore, you should use all major search engines occassionally. Otherwise, you may be in the dark about how they index/display your site

I agree with CBG though. There is no competition for Google in my eyes..... yet

When i search for something , the only thing thats important to me is MAX results. I want to feel like Im getting everything in this one search and that I dont have to go elsewhere to do the same search again.

Thats why I like google so much, it just indexes most of the web.

Sure I would use one if it was better than Google

Google is used today because they are the best, and everyone saying that the no one can replace it is totally off base. People were saying that about Yahoo back in the day. However, the guys at Google are so good and dynamic I doubt that they would ever let anyone get better than them. They would just hire the people that they say as competition.
