Can any body tell me the exact defination of inbound-links and why they are important.

In-bound links are links from other sites that are linking to you. They really help you site get a high page rank in the SE's as long as they are revelant.

For instance ... I have a site (GOPInsight.com) ... I created the site in Dec of 04 ... and I have 1,200 inbound links which has given me a PR of 5. Normally it takes a year or so to get a good page rank but I believe all the trackbacks (inbound links) have caught Googles eye.

Each inbound link comes comes from a page which itself has inbound links. The more inbound links on the linking page, the more important that page is and, therefore, the more important the link to our page is.
Inbound links are important for websites that want to move up the rankings.

It seems this discussion is beginning to focus on inbound links as a way of improving search engine rankings and page rank. Both are important to varying degrees but if you are searching for new inbound links then the potential traffic they can bring to your site should be your main consideration!

An inbound link can be seen as an "endorsement" of your site by another webmaster or company. If the site linking to you is highly popular, it will make your site more attractive to search engines and potentially inspire trust from your visitors.

It's a good thing this wasn't deleted....it's an excellent resource about inbound links.
