I'm questioning this because I have never tried this before, but I am having a photo contest in the hopes to increase traffic and publicity. There are three cash prizes and givaways. Please visit http://www.searchbliss.com/searchbli...to-contest.htm for contest details.

Has anyone here tried anything like this before? If so, how did you fair?

Yep.

Did SEO on one site that ran a monthly competition. Traffic certainly goes up, sales may get a 1 - 2 % boost from that traffic
found that visitors from Loquax and Chatterbox came up with sales occasionally

There are a lot of competition forums around and members of one are often on several others, so join and post on 2 or 3 and word soon spreads. Watch your logs/stats for new referers and join those as well.

Thank you Padawan and Chris. I certainly feel better now. I lauched the contest yesterday and I already have one submission. I does take time to create the kind of photos required to in, so I'm looking for so I'm sure more will follow. I will use the links here to spread the word beyond my members news letters and the home page banner. Thanks again.

Hey Chris,
I joined the forums at Loquax and posted my contest. I visited the next day and it was gone. I tried again, and the next day, deleted. Then today I tried to login and my password is now invalid. They seemed to have blacklisted me for posting a contest in a contest forum

Well the SearchBliss Photo Contest ends on Oct. 1 (a month and a half) and there have only been 2 submissions so far. This isn't very many considering there are 3 cash prizes. Odds of winning are great for them.

I just hope more enter (maybe most are last minute or are taking there time?). Anyway I'm a little nervous. I don't think it has been bringing me traffic yet. I may just lose money, etc. I'll just hold tight and see.

I've also heard that sweepstakes are very effective, with many sites to submit yours to. What sorts of prizes do you all normally offer?
