Switching to new domain...

I have just switched to a new domain for my website and I'm worried about my search engine spots but this time, I have a question.

When I switch my domain to another one, how can I ensure that my new domain gets listed in the same search spots my old domain did for popular search terms related to my site? Is there a special way I should re-direct the old domain to the new one? What all necessary steps should I take in doing this?

I'm currently using the 301 Moved Permanently code on my old site to re-direct to my old site, will this work fine?

Would changing the DNS of my old domain work better?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Actually by redirecting from old to new you'll kick in the aging delay and you will have no rankings for 9 - 12 months.

HR THread on the subject.

Yeah I have the same problem as you, but the way that I am trying to combat that is by parking my old domain for the first 6 months and then doing a redirect. Also I am contacting everyone that is using the old domain to change it to the new one.

I am crossing my fingers that this is going to work, but Google really didn't give me much choice in the matter
