Sometimes it’s not worth it paying for advertisement, for example it might fail because no one clicks the banner, or the people don’t actually want to see your website or your website might goes down (This has happened to me, lucky the person who I got the advertisement with understood and gave me some extra banner impressions), in this article I will go over some simple and more to the point free Advertising techniques.
There are loads of free ways to get traffic that actually want to be on your website and does not just drain bandwidth, some of the techniques are:
Instant Messaging – This is the best way to get people on your website; you can find people who might want to go to your website, and possibly paying users.
Forums – Put a link in your signature to your website (most forums allow you to do this), if you post but don’t abuse people will want to have a look at your website out of interest.
Directories – When you find a directory add your site, this will help you gain Page Rank.
Good SEO – Search Engine Optimising is relatively important, here are some basic’s;
Use Meta tags (There are many Meta tag generators online, do a little search on Google and see what you get).
Instead of pixels use %, if you do this more people will be able to see your website the way you do.
Use robots.txt’s I’m very new at this but I’m sure some searches on Google could explain better then I can.
Make a XML sitemap, and then submit it to Google, this helps Google index your site faster.
Top sites list – Join these; vote a bit and get high in the list then you should get some traffic and some Page Rank.
FFA Links Pages – Free For All links pages are to be honest link dumps, they get you a little Page Rank, but not much.
Pictures/Cartoons/Tutorials – By making a Picture/Cartoon/Tutorial and putting your URL in the corner can get you loads of traffic. This is because if people like the
Picture/Cartoon/Tutorial they will send it to there friends, who might send it to there friends.
Chat Rooms – Going in to a chat room and having a chat then saying ‘Want to see my website’ can get you some traffic, but it’s really one good for small personal websites.
Word of Mouth – Tell your friends or people your website, give them a little information about it, if they like it they tell there friends.
Writing Articles – Write some articles and add a link at the bottom to your site, simple yet effective.
Affiliating – Try affiliating, you get some good Page Rank, and traffic some other websites.
Writing Scripts – Writing a simple JavaScript or PHP could not only make you some money, but if you post them for free on the web and make it linkware or even freeware, then submit it to the web with the author as your website.
I think that covers everything, I hope this helps you get enough traffic to keep your website alive and kicking.
