Hi All,

Would appreciate any alternative views on this one regarding site promotion

Im involved in UK Job related sites, we do all the standard stuff, SEO for position in the main three engines, we have a PR6 site, write articles and advertise from time to time in some publications.

Obviously, some of these issues have been well covered in this forum but im very interested in other ideas to get traffic to the site.

Its evident that some competitor sites have high visitor levels yet have poor search engine position and do little pay per click campaigns, so its obvious they must get a volume of visitors to the site from elsewhere - its this elswhere factor that i wish to explore to raise brand awareness and get a higher level of visitors.

Any ideas on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Rich

P.S i do try to contribute on this forum where i can so if anyone wants help in other areas of site development im happy to give my two pennys worth.

Hi,

it seems that they are using affiliate programs. They pay other website for promoting their sites.

Thanks.

Affiliate programs do seem to do well with job sites - can be a pricey investment though.

There are though a lot of things that you competitors can be doing to bring traffic in - remember not all traffic originates at Google.

Sticking online for a moment they could be buying exposure on other, targeted sites or running promotions in conjunction with them. Unless the sites have a technical bent it is probably more likely that it is good old-fashioned offline marketing that is coming into play: press advertising, sponsorship deals, job fairs, schmoozing with HR departments of companies that are downsizing, radio etc etc. Afterall, whilst people browse jobsites a lot, plucking up the courage to jack in their jobs, most of us will grab a newspaper or trade magazine when we actually find ourselves without one.

IMO these website promotion tips will helpful to you: -
1. You should encourage people to pass on information about your site to others, and you use that word-of-mouth publicity to advertise your business.
2. Affiliate programs also referred to as "reseller" or "associate" programs are a great way to get other people (called affiliates) to promote your product or service for you.
3. You should get free links on other high-traffic websites to get benefits soon from all the exposure their site receives.
I think you should also visit this article to get information in depth.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the posts guys, very much appreciated, its given me something else to think about outside of search engine promotion and i truely value all replies on this thread - Thanks again

Also, the article link that etech-martin supplied was most helpfull - thanks for that one!

The sites i work on are my main source of income so expansion and development of the sites outside of the search engine reach is vital for my business to grow

Thanks.... any other views not covered, still greatly appreciated

Rich
