What dis/advantages does 3 way linking have over 2 way?

No real disdvantage - but not much real advantage either. 3-way links are still very easy to spot.

It makes it harder for SE's to pick up the fact your exchanging links and that those links are placed there because you have good, interesting site etc.

It does not matter much whether you engage in link exchange or 3 way linking. You get benifitted if the exchange is between similar interest sites.
