Banner Impressions Vs Page Views

Hi all.
Wonder if anyone can help me with some strange stats that are developing on my website.

For the last week the site has been averaging 120,000 page views a day. Which is cool, the problem is that I have CPM banner ads, which are on the top of the page (So quick loading) and by their stats the banners are only showing up 5000 times a day.

So basicly im making very little money-when I think I should be making a lot more.

Im a bit of a newbie, but I think ive come up with some possible explanations.

That the banners are being cached by the visitors browser (To combat this today I have added a no-cache line into the HTML-Has anybody tried this? Does it work?)

People are moving off the page before the ad is loaded- which is possible but not that probable. Its at the top of the page and it would be quite far fetche to think its going on about 90,000+ pages a day.

Can anybody help out on this? I feel that im being taken advantage of and losing revanue (and the ad company is making money from my unclaimed banner views!)

Does anybody else have any similar problems? Are most peoples pageviews the same as banner impressions?

Any views on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try adwords, or another network for a day or two...

I'm not sure if this applies to your case, but one reason people could be viewing the page ant not seeing the banner is they have images disabled or are using a non image browser. Probably not 90,000 worth of people though.

Some possible guesses of the top of my head:
I think in some cases in order for an ad to get an impression a visitor may need to stay on the page for a given length of time. I've noticed that ocassionally with the the adsense on my site. It may also be possible that the banner impressions aren't counted for a browser at the same ipaddress over a given time. So if I went to your site and clicked on 10 pages over a given time I might only have been counted for one banner impression.

Like zenanthor said you could try another ad network and see what results they report.

Maybe your banner service is only counting unique visitors in a certain timeframe (like 24 hours), and a lot of your visitors move from page to page, or visit the site more than once a day.

In that event, your pageviews would be much higher than the actual number of unique visitors to your site, which seems to be the situation you're describing.

I would suggest trying out a service that pays for raw visits rather than unique visits. That way, every time someone sees a banner, you'll get money; it won't matter whether they visited the page more than once that day, or if they went to another part of your site and came back.

A great service that pays for raw impressions is (they have banners as well as popups, don't let the name trick you ) . You can read the full review of their service here. Try them out for a few days, and see whether your numbers improve.
