have you add to the main SE i.e Google, Yahoo, MSN? one more...add to the other open directory i.e Dmoz.org and other free directory

The general advice would be link exchange, optimize your site with proper relevant keywords, forum promotion with the help of signatures etc.

why not get some of your articles onto other services just as a way to get started.

I've found that Isnare is a good one for getting syndicated elsewhere.

Link exchange and writing articles will help in increasing traffic. Articles are very effective for getting links to your website.

I have this problem too :-/ so hard to increase the traffic in my site too

I don't know how to advertise it without spending any money :-/ i mean you know, about the keyword things, it's kind of hard for my website to have certain specific keywords cuz I made it very broad >.< any suggestions?

Wow... I am glad you guys are talking about this. It is a pain in the rear to get more traffic to the site. In fact I gave up for awhile, but am at it again. Thanks for all the ideas you gave the original poster...lol... I am gonna' take them and run with them also!

Try to add your site to DMOZ. You have to wait several months to get your site listed, but if they decide to list it you will have a big number of links to your pages. One of my sites has been added to the directory 7 months after the submission, but now I have more than 700 links back to my domain, as there are hundreds of sites that use the results provided by DMOZ.

How can you check to see if DMOZ is listing your website? I submitted mine a few weeks ago, but don't know if it is now registered in the directory.

You could try:

-buying adspace on relevant websites
-buying text links on www.adbrite.com or www.text-link-ads.com
-writing press releases for places like www.prweb.com and www.ezinearticles.com
-buying targeted traffic
-buying email campaigns
-submitting to directories etc.

Hi Sarpras

I agree with the comments about directory submissions being key. I've been gathering a list of 850 or so directories that I submitted our site to whilst doing some initial SEO etc. The big ones are in there, but most are either totally free or free with a reciprocal link. They're listed by Google PR of the home page.

I still don't know a lot about promotion, but 4 months ago I knew nothing - submitting to this lot helped take our site from PR 0 to PR 4 in around 4 months (we're still waiting for review on a lot of them too).
