I've found something I think you will all find EXTREMELY interesting. If you look at my site you will see a chat box on there half way down

This little piece of kit is FREE from http://www.gabbly.com/ I found it the other day and have been trying it out, it's great. Just go to gabbly click embed then put your URL in, then all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML.

How easy is that for such a great function.

This is kind of cool, but I think starting an IRC chatroom might be better in the long run. That way, people can use their own program to log in, and you can administer + keep logs of conversations. There are a few Java-based IRC clients that can be integrated into a site just like that chat box.
This is probably better for a simple application (no downloads or anything), but for a serious chatroom I'd go with IRC.
