Hey all,

Ok I'm not planning on starting a online advertising company but something I'm curious, how do they start out? If they just opened a site and offered advertising they would have no big clients to entise advertisers and visversa...

Maybe they land one big client and just milk it till they get more?

I don't know. Anyone know? Too much time on my hands to think =]

Most of the time they sign up as publishers to other networks. For instance, if I purchased ads from you, and sold them to www.tribalfusion.com I simply take my cut, and you never know your running tribal fusion ads. The main problem is finding large enough publishers to fit the bill.

Most real companies start out by building established sites to advertise on. The real launch of the company begins when they have a valuable amount of traffic among their sites to sufficiently sell professional ad space.

You could also start up an affiliate style system, where people paste your ad code on their sites and you take a cut of the profits from advertisers.

The first method is more stable, the second can be easier but will likely run into other problems.
