Ok so I tried to use this link market site that let's you pick some sites that you would like to exchange with, and they send you people too.
I have only been there a few days, and got a few good links, yet they start sending you like all kinds of links.
The catch is that your supposed to pay for there servcie and then they will stop sending you links that you do not want.
Within a few days I got Viagra links, Online Gambling, and Real Estate Links.
Anyways I was wondering if there were anymore sites that people have used that seem to sound ok, but really may not be worth the time.

I never use any link exchange programs and I won't recommend any of them. I think you have to be very careful with who you link out to from your site and most if not all of the link exchange programs will inevitably link your site into a 'bad neighborhood' which will do more harm than good.
I think some will give you a temporary boost in ranking, but the search engines (Google especially) have been making updates to their algorithms to discount these kind of links. The best case is most of the links will just not get counted. the worst case is your site could get in trouble for associating with the wrong sites.
Link exchange programs exist only to manipulate search ranking and the search engines will typically see tham as link spam. I'm sure some still work at the moment and I'm also sure that each new algorithm update will catch a few more of the techniques they use and discount the weight of any links they spread.

Yep. That's exactly why I don't recommend them. The way to get links is just hard work. Anything that makes big promises, probably won't really deliver how you want them to.

I have used link market for a while and for several sites.
I have free accounts and some paid accounts.
The biggest pain is the maintenance especially when exchanging a lot of links so I had a tool built that automatically accepts links and adds to online directory so now I run the process once a week and the whole thing takes 15 minutes to process 100 links.
Initially I had an increase in page rank but that dropped back I guess on the last PR update. The good news is that it worked well for keywords in MSN, Google of course takes ages to includes the links if at all.
I still think it's worth while but is a long term process.

They probably will help more in MSN for now. I don't think the loss in Google is an aging thing though. Recent Google updates have in large part been to catch these kind of techniques and de-weight the links attained this way. I also think in time that MSN will be working to reduce the impact of linking schemes.
The search engines really want links to be natural. They want to see site A link to site B, because site A thinks site B is a good site, not because it will help in site B's PR or ranking. As a result they're (Google at least) reducing the weight of link exchanges and reciprocal linking in their ranking algorithm. Exchanges of links aren't a natural occurrence. They exist so webmaster can try to manipulate their rank.
None of the search engines are perfect and there will always be ways to manipulate the algorithm in some form, but be aware that the search engines will always be looking to prevent that and if you do practice techniques for manipualtion you always run the risk of having your pages disappear from the results pages overnight.

That all makes sense. It sounds good when you first start, because your getting links. But when your getting unrelated site links, thats not good

Yeah.... Linkmarket sucks. I tried it like 2 years ago.
I gave in and bought Internet Business Promoter(IBP).
I would say in the last month or so I've accumulated about 35 good themed links to one of my main sites.
Linkexchanges simply are a horrible idea.
You can also goto seochat.com and use their page rank search with key words to find higher PR sites to contact for a link exchange. (-: I have landed some good PR6s doing this)

It does seem to helo in a way, where you can ask some sites to exchange with you, but Ihave not had any luck with any of them responding

Chris at least where Google is concerned reciprocal links don't carry much weight. I would suspect that before too long the other search engines will follow.
Even if you do get those sites to exchange links with you I woudn't expect any improved ranking in Google and depending on who you are ultimately linking to you might even lose rank.

don't believe in what?
Sant Claus, The Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny ?
Or the fact that Google consider link exchanges to be a means of subverting their algo and will devalue and/or penalise sites/pages using them?
