Hey guys.

This is my first post.

Basically I would like to know how I monitor how many people are clicking banner/text ads on my site. At the moment I just have an ad thats linked, and that doesn't really tell me if its successful!

e.g. an advertiser places a banner on my site, and I want to know how many times the advert is clicked. CTR!

I know there is probably a free bit of software somewhere staring me in the face, but I can't find it. I don't think my current web stats software has this facility.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You could send the site ID as a variable in a URL to a script that will then count one visit then forward the user to the external site.
Like http://domain.com/script.php?url=thissite.com

But if the advertiser has bought the ad space with the understanding that you will provide direct links to his/her site this wouldn't be an option.

provided that the "jump" script redirects with a 301 to the target site, the type of tracking link above would work for both users and SEs.
