Hello to all.

Ok so here is my problem, I send out emails all the time. Many times I send out about 70 each day.

My problem is I ask for advertising with subject lines like Hello or No Subject.

What I am wondering is it seems like I get responses back when i only send out like 10 or 15 a day.

It might just be a weird thing, but when I send out many email, I get 0 responses.

So what I am asking is it possible that the interent keeps track of your emails that you send out, and when you send too many you get like banned? Like all of my emails go directly to spam folders instead of an inbox?

Any ideas would be great. I know this might be a weird question, but important for me.

Thank you

Chris

I would not think that less than 100 would tag you, but, the answer to your question is yes.

Multiple emails with the same subject and content are tagged as SPAM. That is one of the "prime identifiers" used by the control programs.

Maybe some one else will respond with a better anser.

So do you think it passes after a while? Like do I need to send them from a different address? Or say like today I am tagged for spam, but I rewrite an email and then mail out only 8 tomarrow, will I still go into spam boxes do you think?

I'm not an expert by any stretch but I have done some investigation into how typical anti-spam programs appear to work. (Besides I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night....)

It appears that some of the receiving programs (programs at the incoming mail server level) work by (1) identifying IP addresses that send out tons - millions - of email messages each day and place the offending IP address on a 'black list' so everything from that IP address is trashed and not forwarded to their users (2) attempting to identify 'key words and phrases' in both the subject and in the body of incoming emails - like perhaps free viagra (which sort of explains why these things now say ViAAgra or some such nonsense) - and trashing those individual messages. I have also 'heard' that some mail servers attempt to detect mailing lists addressed to more than 100 recipients and trash them also (although that one seems a bit far fetched to me but really, who knows what they can do?

I have also been told by Bellsouth support that they will trash outgoing messages sent through one of their mail servers if the message is going to 'too many' people.

I've done a few things to make sure my email goes through (1) I no longer send email from my website (since I can't seem to get them to explain the logic behind their mail block and 'blacklist' procedures) and now send everything through my personal email account at Bellsouth - just set up your outgoing mail server to Bellsouth and it will appear to all your users that the mail originated from your own website (2) When I do occasionally send out email that will be going to more than 50 people I always break the list down to less than 50 people and send it out multiple times (3) I always try to make sure that my subject line is clear and my message is business oriented and (4) I always include myself on bcc for these emails so I can quickly determine if something ever does get blocked.

Not sure if any of this is really having an impact but my email never gets blocked.

If you are really concerned about your email getting blocked and are sending out hundreds of email messages each day you can alway subscribe to an email list server to handle your distribution.

Ok so I am with startlogic, which I have no affiliation, but I have all of my emails forwarded to my outlook express. Could this be causing any issues?

This issue is actually much simpler than your email client or server or how it's sent.

The question: are you sending unsolicited commercial emails? The answer: yes. You can send out 1 or 100, but you're still spamming. The only difference is the likelihood that you get caught.

If you get busted...well...you deserved to.

My own suggestion to you, if you need to cold email at all, is to do your homework on the companies you're targeting and email them with an advertising proposal tailored to their needs. Show that you've done some research. Show that you've done some homework. And show that you're interested in making them money.

Thanks for writing back ADAM

I called my host and they told me the reason that so many people were not getting any emails were because I have shared hosting and so I am only allowed to send 10 emails per user name.

Weird huh

This is important

horror story; the 'refer a friend' script on my site was 'hacked' and used to send out tons and tons of weight loss pill spam. result; all email from my sites ip blocked. new users were not receiving their confirmation email at signup because of this. major issue.

my advice, don't mess around with unsolicited commercial emails. Unless, as noted above, you are proposing a specific deal to a specific company for a specific reason. Custom communication is the key.

As far as 'will i get away with it'...

are the possible rewards even worth the risk,
not to mention bothering so many people with spamyness?
