As of right now we are #1 in google search for "tile contractor charlotte"

that's with our own in-house seo, which is super amateur

we want to get higher in search rankings with other keywords
and we would like to target googlers who are in our local area looking for tile and paint contractors

we are a tile and paint contractor http://www.cupantileandpaint.com

there are a few sites that direct customers to a submission form to submit their project and then they turn around and sell those "leads" to contractors that are members of their site

we have used a couple of these companies like: servicemagic.com , reliableremodelr.com , homeimprovementportal.com

but instead of paying hundreds of dollars for these leads, which sometimes are bogus anyhow,
we would like to set something up to direct these online searchers to our contact page which has a form to submit information to http://www.cupantileandpaint.com/contact.html

any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Matt, while I'm glad you got listed under "tile contractor charlotte" that term is not searched very often. There is only about 500 thousand listings. While Title Contracting is still small on the Internet anyhow its best to get on that term instead. You have a long way to go to even consider yourself a basic seo amature company. Anyone with 1 week of seo experience can get listed in such a small term.

i hear ya,

but I wanted to target customers in the charlotte, north carolina area

I don't want a customer from california contacting us

to tell you the truth, I really don't know how we made it to number 1 in google for "tile contractor charlotte"

but would definitely like to get up there for "tile contractor"

any suggestions for boosting rankings?

what sort of searches will people do looking for a tile or paint contractor?
do I add these exact search terms in <meta name="keywords" content= />
???

yes, I would put terms like tile contractor first. Then followed by 3 or 4 other variations of that.

Matt - I certainly wouldn't place much stock in someone with limited SEO experience, and definitely not someone who's only been on the Internet for 3 years and wants to charge some unsuspecting person $75 for the same thing I'll show you.

First of all, you really should clean up the following meta tags in the manner I've shown for optimization, according to current SE rules:

<meta name="keywords" content="charlotte, tile, paint, contractor, North Carolina, ceramic, granite, marble, stone" />
<meta name="description" content="Cupan Custom Tile and Paint contractor in Charlotte, NC specializing in Ceramic, Porcelain, and Natural Stone tile install and repair." />

Secondly, sign up for "Google Adwords", even if you don't plan on using them -- then, to get better targeted keywords, just use Google AdWords Keyword Tool

That's what a "real SEO" who knows what they're doing will tell you, without charging you anything!

well i optomized www.3dgamics.com while not perfect check out the keyword in google "3d dvd tutorials" the main term the business needs, im number 4-5 therefore I know how to optomize.

Matt -- about Servicemagic ... did you see their keywords?

I'll suggest you change your keywords to this:

building contractor, ceramic tile, charlotte observer, granite, marble, north carolina real estate, home improvement, home maintenance, remodeling, tile contractor

Once you do that, sit back for about a week and see if anything changes -- one thing I noticed you are doing in your keywords is, repeating several words ... SE's regard this as keyword spamming, which is why I made the suggestion to change your keywords.

Getting visitors to your site -- have you considered Custom Business Cards with your business logo and URL printed on them; not to mention flyers?

Yes; I saw that site yesterday and was amused at their severe lack of correct meta tags -- how they "beat" you is merely by their 2-word Title "Tile Collection" ... this is something many Webmasters utilize to also get indexed higher.
