I finally got set up on myspace in an effort to stay on top of the social network and community website phenomenon....

I think these sites are amazing in their scope and number of registered users and do present a useful tool to develop your presence on the web.

I think doing mass bulletins and getting a bot to do your friend requests is not such a great idea - rather I think adding friends with interests relevant to you and your sites is probably the best albeit slower way to go.

Any feedback on how to get the most out of social networks appreciated, I'd like to get a discussion of this started!

What is that you are looking to gain from social networking? Have you considered developing a blog as well?

The Economist criticized MySpace, and social network sites in general, in that they're great for connecting with other people, but that people don't know what to do once they've connected. In your case, you just want them to click a link, but people at an awful lot of sites don't like clicking out to a different site.

I've given MySpace a shot, and it hasn't made an appreciable difference in traffic to my site. But I got emails from a few people I went to high school with, which is nice.

I book marked my site on del.icio.us, and need to look into the other "social bookmark" sites...
