I would take care getting traffic from MySpace as so many people have spammed it that they are now taking legal action against some people.

Like I said before, you are only going to get in trouble if you are a spammer.

You should read MySpace's Terms and Conditions and have a clear definition of what spam is and also what MySpace considers spam. If you do not have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do you should consult an attorney before entering into a marketing plan that you might think is of questionable legality.

Mostly when you use MySpace you are using passive marketing tactics and not spamming.

Really. Have a clear definition of what MySpace considers spam before you start posting so you don't get yourself in trouble.

Yes, using myspace is good, but using it the right way can get you good traffic. Use it the wrong way and you can get into trouble. For example, paying people to knock out a large amount of bulletin boards is considered spam and the one that earns the money will get into trouble, but your site will also look bad for it.

Anyway, I will definately not rule out MySpace altogether as it can get you some good traffic. I know that from experience and so does others here.

Yeah there are a grip of people out there using MySpace to spam their dating sites and mp3 player and ps3 giveaways to get your email address and spam you. Really there are alot of legitimate people using MySpace, Any celebrity you can think of has a MySpace account or at least a fan page. Of course there are alot of people who try inpersonate them for spam purposes as well.

Here's my MySpace profile Buck Roberts's MySpace

I use it and I seem to get a small amount of traffic from it (small friends list). My site is motorcycle oriented and there seems to be a lot that ride on myspace. Right now my click thru is about 5% so you decide if it is worth the time. Just understand it is a another website to maintain sorta. I also actively use the bulletin about once a week. I try not to spam my friends list very often.

Ok let me throw my two cents in. Myspace works great for Bars, Night Clubs, and things of that nature. Also great if used correctly for dating sites, sex sites, and anything with a naked woman on it. However, for marketing, eBay, and other businesses of that sort it is a little harder and requires a lot of work to really see any good positives.

I suggest just starting a profile for your business (don't use your personal one) and putting some link in there. Participate in the forums like you would here and start a blog. You will slowly get friends and you will slowly see results but you won't have to put in a lot of time to get the extra free marketing.

Good Luck,

Benjamin

Use groups too. Join groups that are similar to your target audience. Add the people in the groups and interact with them.

MYSPACE?????

It used to be a good way to get links, you could add a comment into a profile with rank and such, myspace saw that people were doing this so now all links are no follow. Ruins myspace IMO.

How and why?

It doesn't exist for you to get links from. the links still work for people to click through to other sites

Why is it that the link beggers go and abuse the crap out of any and every potential resource they find, then cry foul when the site owners put a stop to it?
What is it that gives them the right to expect site owners who are building a community to "lie back and think of England" while they are being s4@ft3d by a bunch of unimaginative people who really haven't got a clue about creating something useful!!!
