Generally, if you keep them in your signature and you post relevant to the group you should have nothing to worry about.

"Sending unsolicited bulk and/or commercial messages over the Internet (known as "spamming"). It is not only harmful because of its negative impact on consumer attitudes toward PCBS, but also because it can overload PCBS's network and disrupt service to PCBS subscribers. Also, maintaining an open SMTP relay is prohibited. When a complaint is received, PCBS has the discretion to determine from all of the evidence whether the email recipients were from an "opt-in" email list."

The thing with dougadam though is that when you post a message in a yahoo group it automatically gets sent out to everyone on the yahoo groups mailing this for that group so you can stop the emails even if you wanted to I don't think. It's up to the members of the group to stop receiving emails.

As long as you don't spam I guess it would be alright.

A lot of things are considerd spamming most, but really who cares what most people think/do. Do what you can to promote your site. Don't worry about what other people have to say ....just try to find ethical ways of spreading back links too.

You don't see any contradiction at all in saying "do whatever it takes" and "who cares what people think?" on one side of your mouth, and out the other side saying "be ethical?" Ethical is what most people think is ok. If you don't care what people think, you don't care about being ethical. And if you depend on other people for your success - say to click your ads or buy your product - then you have to care what they think and do.

My nephew can figure this stuff out, and he's in 2nd grade.

You depend on traffic. Traffic = people coming to your site. Ergo, you depend on people.

I swear, the forum's IQ dropped in half since you learned how to make SE friendly signatures. We used to have informative discussions where people learned things and shared ideas. Now every time somebody posts anything, it gets interrupted by someone who doesn't seem happy with the amount of attention they get at home.

If every comment I have almost ever made wasn't turned into a insult. You know it might be a great coversation.

I am adding my piece and what you do is rant about my signature. I am just trying to learn like everyone else.

I'm not ranting about your signature at all, I'm airing my feeling that this web site has suffered a loss in their signal-to-noise ratio. Nice straw-man argument.

I see you agree that you do in fact need people by the fact that you quoted and didn't address the point, which means by extension you might ought to start paying attention to things like ethics and community standards after all.

Nobody cares about your signature, we care about the quality of the posts here. When you hijack threads to broadcast your ignorance and tell us you're building a site where naked women read cue cards and you have a paranoid delusion that everyone but you hates America, that's highly disruptive, rude, and makes this web site a less attractive place for everyone who's using it in good faith.

Thanks John for the clarification.
