A lot of those websites that offer to sell traffic use these scripts:

http://www.hotscripts.com/

pass the word!

real traffic comes from link exchanges and the major search engines and directories.

help screw email bots

Totally agree but unfortunately these types of scripts and scams will stay around until people stop buying in the idea of traffic selling.

Nexus,

I didn't even check the scripts on that page but you can be SURE that your awstats counts hits from these "cheating" scripts. I dont want to go into detail here, if you need more info just PM me because this type of discussion does not belong on a public forum.

I think I was misunderstood about this thread. I just want to let new Webmasters know that other Webmasters who claim to sell traffic are really just scam artists. I think the people who make these scripts and the people who use these scripts should be behind bars. They are ripping people off.

Don’t buy traffic! If you want to get traffic then advertise on a popular site where you can see your ad or try pay per click with google or overture.

I've used the following 'suggestion' to my clients many times.

Putting an advert in the news paper for your website tends to be a very reliable and cost effective means of getting traffic.

There is also more credibility, if the hits comes from a news paper.

I agree that if there is no real hit generated that it is a scam and should not be used.

However, I think there are hit programs that will actually load the site on a members' pc that are not scams, but they are also not the "best" traffic.

Dont P*** me Off m8!

The Word SCAM is used loosely here

I too sell Traffic, but do you know how my ststem works ? Mine is a Pay-Per-Click with an Affiliate Program, my affiliates and visitors clicks the ADS. how would I generate fake traffic ?

Not ALL are scam...!!! Atleast not me and a few more who've been proved good. Talk to me on MSN and I'd prove that I send GENUINE hits..

Hi,

I too have been in the traffic business for many years. I totally agree with you that many companies do scam you by using scripts to send fake visitors. In fact I've written an entire article about it.

http://www.cadenzaweb.com/articles/H...eb-Traffic.php

There are plenty of legitimate companies out there doing the same thing, who create and manage large networks of qualified websites, and use that network to display the ads. I dont like to think of it as selling visitors, as much as being an agency to help distribute my clients ads.

It can be very powerful,

Josh

The absolute number 1 thing you need to do to increase and maintain web site traffic is to continually devour as much information as possible. Just as high web site traffic can be fleeting, low traffic can quickly turn positive with the right current knowledge. Do not be content with with either your web site traffic, the success of your search engine promotion, or any one source of information. Be critical of your site, analyze similar sites, and read read read.

For example, www.trafficfinders.us is a downloader scam

TrafficFinders.us is not a scam. You ordered the cheapest traffic that is mainly used to improve Alexa and search engine ranking and expected more than what you paid for!

Here is the info about this kind of traffic.

"Our lowest priced traffic! This traffic is Global in origin and is what is know as "bulk ". This means that it can come from any source such as expired domains, popunders, redirects, traffic exchanges, etc. and it is untargeted and non-unique. Great way to boost Alexa and search engine rankings. "

If i were you, i'd order one of the targeted traffic packages instead of making false claims.

I Guarantee AW Stats counts them as hits - my stats have been screwed this month by this.

FEB 2005: 2002 Hits
Mar 2005: 8347 Hits - This being the result of a cheating script

I sell traffic too, and I have repeat customers, thats exactly what Im interested in.

I too think the word scam is used loosely here.

I spend a LONG time of hard work building up a network of places to advertise, and I think its sad when someone makes a generalization like that.

I do understand that there ARE scams... hey in my early days, I was HAD by one of them, but hey, you live and learn.

I want people to come back and refer me to others, and the only way to do that is to provide the best possible service. Sure you can go to google, or overture, but I can do the same thing, with a personal touch.

Thats the business Im trying to build.

Leah
