Hi guys

I would be interested to know what some people would do if they had a budget of say $200 - $250 a month, to promote and market their site ?

Free t-shirts.

Order a bunch of shirts from cafepress (or a similar service). Offer free shirts for people who write reviews in their blogs and/or popular web sites.

Depending on the niche your in purchasing stumbles (StumbleUpon) might be effective. They are 5c per visitor so most of the time less than adwords.

Other than that, I would try to establish a partnership with a non-competing site in my niche. They can provide much more value than just a visitor or an ad impression. If you choose wisely you could end up influencing your potential market. I did this with ZemoStock early on for just a month and now I get all kinds of type in traffic. I believe there is a direct correlation.

Hi there

Yes thats another good point, i have tryed to approach some websites that might compliment my and their site, but it is quite difficult to form online partnerships, as for the stumble upon, it just so happens i was looking at that web site only today lol !

I was going to say: send it to me for your free 'reading' to tell you how your web site will perform in the future... but some guy is offering these free in another thread...

I would spend $120 to issue a good press release with PRWeb.
The balance I would use $100 placing small classified ads in regional publications related to the site market.
I would use the balance of $30 to eat a nice dinner somewhere (probably Chile's for an Oldtimer Burger and a couple of beers).

It's hard to squeeze much more out of $250

They have chili's in Costa Rica? I always pictured you living on a beach in some hovel down there.

All jokes aside, great advice. Oftentimes people (myself included) forget the power of offline marketing.

I like the offline marketing ideas mentioned above,

but assuming that this budget is for online alone
I would get some good permanent text links with your basic keywords inside
and purchase an advertisement from a high traffic site in your niche of course

the paid stumbles mentioned is not really crowd that converts very easily
I would go with adwords,

but definetelly I would setup an analytics account so I can reevaluate my moves for the next month (see where you get the traffic from, which traffic might be ordering your product or requesting more info etc)

Man do I wish there was a Chile's down here... I was just daydreaming. They do have the following: TGI Fridys, Tony Romas, Hooters, Outback Steakhouse, Dennys. They also have the usual gaggle of fast food places (McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell etc..).

I haven't had a good Chile's burger in over 7 years...

You wouldn't even recognize Jaco. Loads of huge high-rise condos going in starting at $250K and going up to $1M. The more laid back places with great ambiance include Dominical on the Pacific side or Cahuita on the Caribbean.

Mel Gibson just bought thousands of hectares of land in the North Pacific zone near Samara. This place is just exploding...

I can't believe it.

When I was there, it was just a quiet little beach town with good surfing. I can't even remember seeing any buildings with more than 2 stories. Wild iguanas all over the place. That pizza joint was open and had iguanas up in the rafters. The guys making the pizza would throw vegetables up there and the iguanas would catch them.

There was this one seafood restaurant, I can't remember the name, where 5 bucks got a huge plate with vegies, octopus, and rice. That was good stuff.

Night life was the one little disco by the beach, with no air conditioning, but an awesome fan by the bar. After it closed, there was the guy with a portable grill selling hamburgers, of all things.

I will say, the one thing I miss the most was the coffee. I've traveled a bit and have never found coffee as good as that in Costa Rica. I still get shipments of Cafe Britt pretty regularly. The original in the red bag is the best.

I first came to Costa Rica in 1991 - Jaco was just like you're describing then. If you want a similar ambiance you need to hit Cahuita on the Atlantic side. Really good surfing nearby and very relaxing. Definitely no 5 stars around.
