I have read up on your quality link advice and I can definitely see it working if I owned a blog or an informative site of some kind (e.g. stapleton-castle.org.uk/presteignebusiness.co.uk - some of my other sites). Anyway, my site which I really want traffic on is whymwebhosting.co.uk - a web hosting site. How on earth can I get quality content on here when I'm trying to sell something? Considering I've only just started up, I really need to get quality traffic + links for my site but I doubt this will happen at my current stage. What shall I do?

One thing you might try is to have a lot of information about hosting. Examples:

How to select a great hosting company
Hosting terms explained
How to decide which package is for you
Learn how to FTP
etc..

Adding pages of information such as the above will do 2 things:

a) Build relevant content and gain you some traffic based on the multiple keyword phrases that are bound to exist in your copy.
b) Establish you as a leader in hosting based on the excellent information your customers will find on your site.

What Dave said, and I'd take it a step to the right...write articles on how to build successful sites. By showing customers how they can make money online, you establish a partnership relationship rather than that of a customer/supplier. Partnerships work out better for everyone.

I feel like you would be wasting your time with such an approach. None of the top-rated hosting companies are know for their "high quality content." What they are know for, is advertising.

The difference is I do not have thousands of pounds at my disposal, they do. My market is a relatively local one anyway so content combined with local advertising is probably my best bet (yes I did just answer my own question!)

The top hosting companies also have the ability to telemarket (die, Verio!) and sell packages for 5-10x what they're worth (hi, Interland!)

Your layout limits the information you can post when someone, clicks on!
But you know something, your selling hosting! and you done that, when I logged on I saw your offer. Yea a few images cpanel,OS system. If your package is as good as everyone else's, and price. Then just go to every forum you can, and in the web hosting offers post,your website and one of your package deals. Get a few good guys or gals, treat everyone right, it will work. Go find anywhere you can post. I'm different, I go looking for hosting, I'm looking at dependability,ram,transfer, price. I don't need the "you can make a million"!! I did that! and got all the newbies, tech support was so much work,it wasn't worth it for me. I'd rather have seasoned players. Anyway if you want clients, post.

Just ask yourself what questions your potential customers might have and them write articles answering those questions in the form of "how to" guides or other types of articles. Then it is much more easy to get links to your helpful and informative content on your (still) commercial website.

I agree with the general advice here. Good, related content will pull more traffic. Get involved on business related blogs and link back on topics to your site. Update your site frequently with new topics, etc...

Try to supply your visitors with some else too except of just your main service in exchange for payment. Content, knowledge base, forum, blog, news, special offers, discounts, etc should do perfect.
