That is pretty lame, I have a feeling social bookmarking websites will be full of spam pretty soon.

Thanks for taking the time to actually report that to Spamble - I'd like to know how if they respond?

The guy says money back guarentee. Maybe we should all sign up and then demand our money back to teach the guy a lesson about spam?

ARGHH!!!! Can't we delete that post? It sends the wrong message just by existing (as alot of the link exchange and seo posts do).

Seriously something has to be done, the number of these scams is amazing and they are being freely advertised on this forum...It just makes me wan to bang my head on the table, grab a shotgun and go spam hunting.

Jamie

That would SO be the wrong thing to do. The last post in that thread, the one where Chris announces that he went and reported this to the authorities, is the exact reason.

Remember when you were a kid and they taught you "crime doesn't pay?" That's the ultimate result of that post. Except that spam isn't exactly crime, but it's still dealt with quickly and severely, and that idiot can serve as an example for other spammers.

I did consider that before posting, how about a sticky full of spammers names, operation and consequence. There would certainly be enough of them.

Trouble is none of them care! The blog commenters are bots and will never "see" what has been edited.

it's simply a very selfish attitude to everything. You only need to look over the RLE forum to see what kind of people many of them are.

There is probably less than twenty members out of all the RLE posters that actually venture out into other forums and offer something back to the general WMT community.
The rest simply don't care about anyone else, they hijack threads with their own LE request posts, they start new duplicate threads every day (and more) because their thread is not on the front page or "bump" their thread back to the top. All this creates work for the admin and mod team trying to police their antics.

It's the same with StumbleUpon, and any other website in the same vein. It doesn't matter one bit to them whether anyone actually uses it for the purpose it was conceived, all they can see is something they can exploit and maybe make a few quid (bucks) out of for very little effort on their part.

Jamie has a thread in the suggestions forum ( LE for PR ) and believe me, we do try to exercise control over it but it is a arduous task. A mod would have to spend 2 hours a day, every day to keep it clear.
Getting rid of it would escalate the amount of cleanup in many other forums as they would simply spread the posts far and wide, annoying more community members in doing so.

Guys, I have a confession to make. When I was a bit younger and didn't really know any better, I got a chain letter in the mail. I sent it out and whoo hoo!!! I got nice letter from United States Postal Inspection service telling me that I had violated several laws, fruad, misrepresentation, conducting a postal lottery to name a few and that I could be jailed. Those are the exact laws quoted in the letter that said it was totally legal to send out the letters and collect the money. The only people who made money on that deal are were the post office where I bought the stamps and people who sold me the mailing list. I could have been jailed for that.

Yep! That is true story.

The point is you do something when you think it is ok, or maybe something you aren't sure about becuase you think it will pay off in the end. People are going to invest time into spamming or making bots that spam because they think it will pay off. Maybe some of them don't take the time to read the WT terms of service and guidelines and rules, maybe alot of them don't really care. Alot of people are ruthless spammers.

I think there will always be spam. Some people do it for money and there are fair amount of people who do it just to annoy other people. What a miserable existence that would be to have nothing better to do than to be annoying to others.
