People, take a look at these pictures:
Picture 1:
Picture 2:
Noticed the transition effect in Picture 2? Picture transitions from black color to actual photo in circle?
In short i need to create similar BUT horizontal transition effect for my banner:
Noticed the spot marked by red color? Here is where i need to create transitional effect - from left to right between black color to this blue banner.
How do i do it in Jasc PhotoShop Pro?
Thanks.

How about steps? I made something, but it occupies whole image! I need only the center to make transition from black to banner. See what i made:

Don't have PSP on this machine to step through.
You have done it right though, but you just need it to overlay the center area NOT the entire image.

Adjust the angles and positions of the gradient colours using the gradient editor

Thanks Giselle, but i want to feather only the spot where black and banner connect, i think it requires more than just feathering...

extend the blue layer under the black layer, then:
A: use a low density eraser brush on the black layer, and just "pad" it away (like you would do with a sponge and real paint)
B: The "Scratch removal" tool can also be used to "blur" the join.
C: The "Dodge" and "Burn" tools can be used.
Experiment with different tools and effects to see what works for you, that way you actually learn how to use the tools.

Is this sort of what you are looking for?
I started off with a transparent background, sprayed it black, cropped the original image and pasted it as another layer on top of the black. I used the selection tool, (rectangle) with 26 feather.
Went to Effects, Illumination Effects, Lights. This what I came up with, now one could change settings to suit their needs. Otherwise a free plugin filter, I have link that describes a lot of filters, some freeware, some shareware.

Giselle and chrishirst, this is what i am looking for:
See the smooth transition in the center, from white to blue? This is what i want to do, so in my case transition will be from black to banner (in the center) so it would be impossible to tell that there are two pictures, so black background and banner would seem as one picture.

Take a look at this link again:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/gi/o.h...pages/a19.html
On the far right is a picture with a mask with a linear gradient, similar to the picture you have up, only you are going to be using the black color and the transition will be in the center. This could be done using a mask and layers or a plugin filter, probably a filter, less work. Some of my filters are zipped, I am looking at the Crescent Moon Filter or possibly Greg's filters, that are freeware, otherwise it could be a shareware.

Yes Giselle, i think i need mask with a linear gradient. But instructions there are not for Paint Shop Pro 9 i think, so i am a bit lost and don't know what to do.

Boris are we getting closer?
The image was done with a plugin filter, Greg's Output Vol. ll, "Spotlight."
It could be done with masks, but a lot of work, the second image is the settings I used, but you can play with these settings until the desired effect. I placed the banner on another layer (black background). Actually I started off with a transparent background, added another layer and sprayed that one black. The third layer was the image (banner), in the Selections, select all and now float, you should now have the marching ants around the banner. Now proceed with your Spotlight filter. You could try this without any layers, just the banner itself. A lot of this is playing and see what works out the best, I am used to putting everything on layers.
I work predominantly in PSP 7 and 9, although I do have PSP XI.

Good Giselle, this is what i want, except shadow on the right side of banner (edge). I just need shadow in the middle. Is there a way to do this?

This is where you would need to work with the settings on the "Spotlight Filter" Boris. With this filter you can place the spotlight wherever you want, by reducing the size and focus. I used 140 for the X and Y, trying to center the transition, there are six settings for adjustment.
