Hello everyone. I am new here and would like a little help with investigating a small problem in our test site using IE 6 or IE 7. Our test site shows a JS error in IE 7 from my end, and does not work either in IE 6. But from my programmer's end, there appears to be no problem.

The problem that occurs is when you use the "check" validation for username and email address. We would like anyone with IE 6 and/or IE 7 to help us out and view this link to see what occurs from their end. Do you get a JS error? Does it work the way it should by displaying an ajax response such as "Username is currently available"

Just type in any name and then press "check" to validate. If you see a JS error in the lower left hand side of the browser, please let us know here. Or if works with no problems at all, then please let us know here.

Also, this does seem to work in IE 7 if the page gets refreshed because then the JS gets loaded with no errors. Not sure why this is, but that is what I have noticed.

It works in firefox -- so we only need users with IE 6 or IE 7 to help test it for us. Any help in the testing of this matter would be appreciative.

Thank you.

You can test it here:

Please do not register -- just test the "check" button to see if it is working. Thank you.

Hi there, I think most people would be hesitant to help on an issue like this simply because most people have at least one version of IE on their computer and if you are expecting to get anywhere in the web design world you will need to be proficient in both versions.

IE6 is important as it has the largest user base amongst any browser and IE7 is as it is thought to be the future majority holder. It is great that you test in FF but this is not the be all and end all of browsers.

If you have windows XP you can switch between IE6 and IE7 within a few minutes so there is no reson why you dont test in one browser then switch to the other after to test for that one.

Id be happy to help with a specific problem you may be having.

Hi Jim. I appreciate your answer, but I think you misunderstood my question. I needed people to test the link with IE6 or IE7 -- it didn't matter which one, as long as it was either version 6 or 7. I said it worked in Firefox so users wouldn't come back saying "It worked ok for me in Firefox", because that's exactly what we would have gotten had I not mentioned it.

My main concern was IE (6 or 7). The problem was that it wasn't working at all from my end and I checked with 5 different computers, using v6 and v7. My programmer said it worked just fine, but obviously it didn't for me -- so I was checking to see if it were due to a firewall, proxy, etc. By asking others from other locations, it would be easy for me to go back to my programmer and say "Hey, it doesn't work!" But I can't do that if it's just me... I must be sure.

Regardless, it doesn't matter. It winds up that it didn't work on the majority of users tested from other sites. So that was enough for me to tell him it needed to be fixed -- which he didn't want to do -- so I fired him. Case closed.

Thanks for your help anyway. I appreciate it.

Ah ok then,I am really sorry if I came off a lil strong on you. I did go to your site with my IE7 and it worked just fine, well it said jimbo was available, so if jimbo is indeed available it worked fine for me, IE7 with XP, email address I used was also listed available. I will go check on my other computers that are near to me...

IE7 + vista = user and email available

IE6 + win XP = user and email available

IE7 + winXP = user and email available

I am sorry to hear you had to replace your coder, I hope you find a new one soon enough.
