Hi folks,

I want to create something and i will use youtube as example because it's well known.

On youtube if you rate a movie while waching it , it does not interupt the movie, the same is when changing the comment page. It is like the comment and the rating sections are not in the same page with the movie, something like frames...

I am quite shure it is made with javascript, but i dunno what to search for on google, i tryed some tutorial websites but i did not found anything like that.

So my question is... what should i look for ? What is the name of this method ?

Thx in advance!

The name of the 'technology' is AJAX (or asynchronous Javascript).

There's a number of AJAX / DHTML libraries out there, eg. Mootools, JQuery and Scriptaculous. It's better to use libraries as each browser seems to have its own way of interacting asynchronously.

Cheers m8,

I was afraid of getting that answer tho, i've been studying php for about 5 months and i hoped it would be enough but it looks like cliend-side scripting is also requierd.

I wonder if learning AJAX and DHTML is alot easyer if i already have some good PHP knowledge ?

Well, AJAX is really a mix of client side and server side scripting. You really need both for it to be of any use (and in a lot of cases, it's more server side than anything).

So I would say that, yes, knowing PHP will help your AJAX implementation. DHTML not so much as it's entirely client side but it's still just programming
