I don't think javascript will be around for very much longer. When the new IP's convert over, will the javascript code still be around? How will it covert? I don't see how it can outlast php, asp, xml, html, etc. Yes javascript is nice but I just don't see it lasting very long. It's cumbersome, takes forever to load, and it's not very secure... there has to be a better way.

Well given that none of these
Quote:
php, asp, xml, html
can change anything client side without requesting more data from the server, it's going to be around for quite some time yet.

Only when badly written.

and it's not very secure.
No client side technology is "secure"

If every computer in use in the world ran exactly the same OS, and everybody on the internet used exactly the same browser, and everybody only ever looked at the same sites, maybe there would be. BUT;

as that is never going to happen ....

What does this mean, I don't get it...
Do you speak about IP (Intellectual Property) or ip's (Internet Protocal adresses)?
If the later, you mix 2 very different tbhings....
The layer on which the data are transmitted have nothing to do with those datas.

Javascript is rising more and more. 7 years ago, it was cursed by everyone, and stated as a "do nothing right" language. I was one of them.
Now, thanks for the DOM, it's actually usable, fast, and able to do pretty impressive things.
Today, I love doing javascript, and I'm amazed to see what this language is up to, given his limitations.

If you think javascript is slow and bloated, then either you confound it with something else (java maybe ?) or you only have dealt with very bad written code.

Did you know that JavaScript is the most common programming language in the world? Did you know that massive applications are being developed in it? Did you know that it has been rewritten for the server? Did you know that its data standard (JSON) is rapidly becoming more popular than XML, and has been ported to virtually every major server-side language?

I am betting that there is a lot you don't know about JavaScript.

That is a great article, but I still don't see how javascript is going to make it. Won't the code become more cumbersome when we get higher bitrate IPs?

I get the feeling you have read something and not understood it.

What exactly is a "higher bitrate IP"?

Why should it ?
The code is still the same, would you use an 9'600 Kbps modem or a 100 Mbit optic fiber line.
The time taken to transfer the code will be shorter, but it will not change anything else.

It's like the distance between Europe and USA.
It will take longer to do it on a barge, than with an airplane.
But the distance covered will be the same.

And by the way, yeah, if you could explain what "higher bitrate IP" means, it would maybe help us.
Because I, for one, don't know what it is.
The bitrate is (at least I think it's what you are talking about) the speed possible to reach between 2 Ip addresses.
But ip addresses itself have nothing to do with the bandwidth....
