Hi

Everytime I come to this site lately I get a script error - I don't know if it's JAVA or VB but I think it's JAVA. I'm not script saavy or even close to understanding this kind of technical stuff.

I'm using XP with IE8

I went looking around and tried a windows website that said to download this program it would fix the error but when I went to save the app. I got a big red box warning that said it would harm my pc if I installed it so I quickly cancelled it and then rechecked the website to make sure it was an authentic Microsoft site. It appears to be good so l left it and then came back to it and tried to download the app again. This time no warnings. I still cancelled it because now I'm PARANOID! Here is all the info I have and I hope someone can help me out.

this is the site url: http://windowsupport.info/JavascriptErrors.html

the program was called RegistryEasy - made by a co. called CheeseSoft

Also, prior to this I went to Microsoft Help Site - it had me do several things which gave me no results.
here is the url for that support page: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308260
One of the things it instructed me to do was delete all my temporary files but I did not do that because there are several sites that I use which I've lost my password for them and I can't retrieve it from them either. these are my classroom sites from school and if you loose the password you're s.o.l. until you contact a teacher but I'm on break right now so I can't do that. that's why I have not deleted the temp files.

here's my warning message:

That's a badly written junk site full of gramatical errors.

It reads as if it has been translated into English by a French speaking Russian using a German to Italian translator.

All that error message means is that controlobj has not been defined in the current context of the script.
It is nothing at all to do with registry errors on your machine at all.

Getting Javascript Errors is surely a signal that your registry is corrupted.
Yeah, right.
And coughing is a 100% certain indication that you have got terminal cancer.
This is bulsh1t.

A javascript error means that the person that designed the script did a bad job or that the browser don't support a specific call or functionality, and nothing else.
This site (windowsupport.info) smells like a big huge scam to me.
You sure did well not to install anything from them.
By the way,

It sure is not an official microsoft site.
You would have a page at microsoft.com if it was endorsed by microsoft.

For the javascript error, seriously, just ignore them or use another browser.
You cannot do anything to fix it by yourself.
I use firefox, and I don't have those errors, but checking in IE, I sure see the same errors as you.
It's probably something that have changed in IE8 from the previous versions.
As far as I can see, it don't have any impact on the usage of the site.

Thanks to both of you for the confirmation.

Tripy: I thought the same thing....why wasn't there a link on that site to the Microsoft Support site or vise versa? Plus I didn't really like the name of that company "cheesesoft"? didn't sound like a legit partner of Microsoft to me. And in all my years of downloading apps, I've never seen that red warning box pop up like that telling me NOT to install it.

I'm glad that at least I'm smart enough to never just install the apps right from the d.l. I always save them first.

I haven't used Firefox in at least a year - I don't know I just never really liked it - I'm so used to IE and I hate change. But, I also think Microsoft ruined IE when they moved it up to 7. I had IE6 up until October - because I really liked it (and was used to it.) but then I started getting all these messages on a bunch of different sites telling me they were phasing it out, so I had to bite the bullet and enter the 21st century.... I installed IE8. What do you think of Safari? I have the Windows version saved on my pc but have not installed it.

Chrishurst: I agree - how in the hell do they expect people like me - the average user who knows nothing about scripting language or how scripts work, to understand what the heck these cryptic messages mean? I couldn't even find an answer to that on the JAVA site FAQ's.

From everything, I've been reading since my first post in this thread - confirms what you said about don't worry it doesn't mean my registry is corrupted. But, I did have a difficult to remove TROJAN several months ago so when I read the part about what causes corruption in your registry.... I got worried.

I did go back to MS Support and tried one of the instructions for IE7. It said to lower your accelaration - so I did. Now, it's only happening intermittently here - which I guess is an improvement. I'm frustrated because it effects my posting here. I can't use the color in the advanced reply only the quick reply. But then I can't change the font or the size - I can only do that in the advanced. Also, the pages freeze up frequently.
