I'm trying to set this.parentNode.id. What's odd is that it claims that this.parentNode is null, when I'm able to read this.parentNode.id in the line immediately preceding. (I've only tested on Firefox so far.) Any suggestions?

Actually, I just created a variable "parent" and set it to this.parentNode and used that and it worked fine. Go figure.
