Javascript rollovers - what are your feelings about them vs. CSS sprites?

Can CSS hover code expand like jackscript can??

I.E. a rollover button expanding when hovered on.

I seen a tutorial online once when i was looking for sprite information and i never knew you could make roll over images with css and sprites and i tried it out with a site i was building and it worked great and i had no problems with it, javascript is alright but i try to use as little javascript in my site as i can.
