I want to create a site for a friend and they want it to be just a counter that counts down to a certain date. I would like for it to be very similar to this site as funny as it sounds: www ismileylegal.com How would I do this? I am new to creating things like this but have been creating websites with basic HTML for a while. Mostly forums. Thanks everyone!!

I have a book next to me about writing javascript but havnt gotten that far into it. I looked into that websites source and it shows something about xhtml? I am going to try and read through some of the tutorials on here. I dont want to spend too much time on this and have to learn javascript to make a website that I am not getting paid to do. If anyone knows any shortcuts it would be great! Thanks!!!!!

Nope, Javascript.

SGML, from which HTML and XHTML are derived has no scripting capabilities, search for a countdown script there are plenty of examples around.

One last question. This counter comes with 3 things. 2 of them look like under construction pages. What do I do with the other as far as uploading it to my server to get this to work?

That's the idea.

The demo is supposed to be for a "Countdown to website launch" display

And you do not need to use jquery for something so simple.

I really liked that one. I guess its because it will be the only thing on the website and it wasnt just plain. What would it take if I have that .js file to make it run on my site?

You can format the output from the script any way you require.
