The title says it all really. For all htose who haven't discovered it here's an easy way to hide your e-mail from nasty spam bots (untill they crack the code). Probably the best e-mail encryptor on the web: http://www.automaticlabs.com/products/enkoderform

I know it's 90%+ of people are javascript compatible, but wouldn't it be more browser friendly to use an image?

That, and, some more advanced spam bots have javascript engines built into them (just like a browser) so the code in that article won't do a lot of good. The best ways I've found are either to use an obscured image and don't have a mailto: link (the user will have to type in the address themselves), or there's another script which is quite advanced, and uses mouse events:

There's also Project Honey Pot which will catch spam bots:

I would watch out for those scripts, cause you know what happens? When you enter your REAL address, it's now inside the 'melting pot' your pretty much doomed if you don't know exactly where your address is going. Not that I am right in this case, but it happend to me at another place like that. Claims to be one place but is really the other.

Unfortunately spambots are smart enough to get through these methods. I spend a lot of time applying filters after they get through. But at least I don't too many of them. I also have a spambot trap that excludes SE bots from spidering them using the robots.txt file. Legitimate bots read this file and comply. Spambots don't so they eventually get trapped and hopefully crash.

How exactly do you 'trap' a spam bot?

I have a page of that generates false emails ( here: http://www.searchbliss.com/spambot/spambot-stopper.asp ) that link to the same page that when followed generates more in a continues loop. How well does it work? I can't say for sure, but my spam has been less.

Watch your bandwidth, if it doesn't crash the 'bot you could have a huge overage for the month. (if you're on a limited plan)
