possibly or you could simply use an iframe. It depends on what the script outputs

I'm not sure.. basically this is for a mac OSX widget, so it will be running on the client machine, which will have apache, but not necessarily PHP or SSI. I have a script on a seperate webserver which checks the status of an audio stream and returns one of two graphics, up, or down... Upon receiving this data, the widget will display the same images. So all I really need to read from the php script is the filename... I think.. The widget framwork is essentially javascript, html, and CSS.

I've created my own widget that I give out (The NowPlaying TiVo Widget) so I should be able to help you out some.

Why not have the PHP script on the server pump out the info and use XMLHTTPRequest to grab the data from the server?

Also, check out the forums http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/, we may be able to help you with more Dashboard specific answers.
