Adding Search function to intranet site

Hi Everyone,

I've recently setup a small intranet site which is growing rapidly and I feel it is now necessary to set up a search function on the site. Unfortunately, my server doesn't have any of the necessary technologies installed to enable me to do this easily. I thinks it is possible to use javascript but I can't write this and I don't now how to index my web site without paying out for software.

Any help with this matter will be very gratefully received.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply. This is very useful information and works for a site published on the internet.

My difficulty is that the site I'm dealing with is an intranet site and therefore it is internal and not able to be searched by Google.

Do you possibly know another solution.

Thanks again,

javascript is a client-side scripting technology, so you can only search a page with javascript.

Is there any particualr reason you cannot just not just INSTALL the "technologies" so u can have searches using php/mysql etc?...
if u have access to the server i assume it would be easy.
