This is a popular way to prevent people from saving files on your page, but it's a lot like telling your visitors "Come in, but don't sit down."

Fire Fox has an option to let you run java, but not allow it to mess with the pop-up menu. I just noticed this - it's great! So, it's probably not worth the effort; even if FF isn't all that widely used, it seems like IE 7 borrowed a lot of ideas from FF. I wouldn't be surprised if this shows up in the dominant browser pretty soon.

Disabling the context menu with javascript isnt even effective. It's a dumb thing to do like you say, but it will only ever stop the people who weren't going to save files in the first place.

It's trivial to get the context menu back as it's trivial to simply use your main menu. I'm amazed when I see people still trying to disable the context menu.
