script needed for "what's new" page

I have a very large website with many volunteers working on it. It's hard to keep track of all the new stuff put up, so I can tell visitors to the site about it.

So I'm looking for a script that would generate a page daily or weekly to tell visitors to the site which pages have been updated.

Thanks,

Suzanne Lanoue

Not with javascript.

What server side code do you run?
Does the site use a CMS?

and probably many other question once we know what's what.

Well, your forum probably didn't have a "general script" section or I would have posted there. I have no idea which script would work best. I don't know much about scripts.

We do not use a CMS. We use Frontpage. Everything is uploaded individually.

I don't know what you mean by server side code, sorry.

I know that we already use javascript and CGI on our site if that helps. I believe our server is a unix server.

I think I found one:

http://www.hasperhoven.net/joomla/in...d=29&Itemid=60

Not sure yet how to use it but I might have someone to help me.

Thanks,

What you have linked to there is a "plugin" for the Joomla CMS, so as you don't use that it won't be of any help to you.

Javascript won't work because it only "knows" about the page it is on and cannot access other pages on the site. And you need something that can access the file dates on the server and create a page "on the fly" whenever you need to.

Server side code is ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, Perl, Python etc.
So if you have CGI it's probably Perl you can use.

And create a signature instead of putting links in every post

Where do you see there that it needs that? it is not listed under Prerequisites or anything...?? It says it's just a simple perl script.

Yep, apologies it is a standard Perl script

I mis-read something somewhere (mind you, it was after 1.00 AM)

It will probably do what you want bearing in mind you have to manually add files that you want checking for changes. So if you use this script you will have an uphill battle to make sure that your editors keep the list up to date.
