Okay, so as usual I'm trying something no one else that I know of has tried before. I'm trying to create a scrolling series of divs, like the ones at the bottom of the page:

http://www.innovolve.com/iv2007

In IE, you'll see the effect I'm going for. After much tweaking and shrieking, I got it to work there. Firefox works...sometimes. Sometimes, it will "jog" initially, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it will jog.

I just want to stop it doing that in Firefox for the PC.

A few notes:

1) I don't want to hear "do it in Flash, it will be easier." I don't want to do this in Flash because I want to make sure the content is both indexable and able to be resized. Flash offers neither option. I know full well I could do it in Flash, but I don't want to.

2) If it looks odd in a MAC, I haven't tested it there yet. I'm going to on Monday when I can get my hands on a MAC and can see what it does.

Thanks.

Make sure you wash them (your hands) really well to get the snob juice off.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I just had to say that.

I'm not sure why it's doing what it's doing, but it's very strange. I thought I could predict when it was happening, but testing more and it does seem quite random.

I've got the site bookmarked and if I get a chance I'll take a look at the code and see if I can find something. It does seem like it might be a Firefox bug of sort.

Well, in fairness to Firefox (even though I don't prefer it), this is a rather obscure coding thing to do. The weird thing about it is that, when I put on an alert for every iteration of the function that generates the movement, the "jog" disappears.

Thanks, Steven. And John: I don't intend to actually touch the MAC. I'll let the owner do that. That way, the dirt's on his hands.

I don't see any scrolling divs on that URL with either IE or FF.
Could you send a screen shot of what you are trying to replicate?

I tend to be fairly good at DHTML effects

It doesn't scroll down at the bottom when you hover over the arrows, Paul?

Ahh!
I didn't even notice the arrows.
Ok, so basically, hovering over the arrows causes a left-right auto scrolling. It shouldn't be too hard.

I'll try to whip something up today.

BTW, Adam, could you weigh in on one of your favorite topics?

It doesn't always scroll the correct direction when I hover over an arrow, but you probably already know that.

I couldn't tell you why it jogs like that, but one suggestion I have is to add a setTimeout.
