The more business you do, the more likely you are to get sued. Having good service agreements, contracts and other protective devices is crucial. Beyond that, you should always have someone within your organization that can handle disputes with clients in house. Sometimes to avoid a hairy situation, you have to be willing to comprimise, even if you know you're right.
A sure fire way to avoid being sued is to always fire back instantly when questioned in a highly negative way about services provided. If someone begins to approach you in a threatening manner, you must show them that you are immediately willing to wash your hands of the situation and put it in the hands of your lawyer. 90% of people that threaten suit, are doing just that. They are merely threatening you. Unless you're dealing in $ amounts in excess of $5,000 + per project, most people will back down when it comes to litigation. Lawyers are just too **** expensive.
For those in more serious business, make sure you have a good lawyer. I've been in business for around 8 years, and have only been stiffed twice. The other 2 companies that tried to screw us, talked tuff at first, but the day we put it in our attorney's hands, they gave us a cc and paid their balances in full.
The bottom line; provide a good service and don't post in forums after you've had more than 7 or 8 beers.

but have been threatened once or twice due to some of my investing forums claiming defemation of character on a business and asking me to remove the post.... In one case i did remove it as the post was in appropriate the other i didn't because the business was a scam and we were just pointing it out... needless to say after a few threatening emails i never heard from them again as there is a thing called freedom of speech. Main reason it got their attention as it came up as #2 if you searched for their company at the time
