Search Engine Results at MSN always seem to take a lot longer to because visible, compared to Google and Yahoo.

From my experiences with MSN, it also seems to be able to retain and maintain a top position once it is achieved.

I think it is easier to get 1st place at MSN.com, it just seems to take longer to get there compared to Google and Yahoo.

Surely all this really means is that MSN takes longer to spider everything. The knock-on effect would be that the results are more likely to be out of date and perhaps one reason why almost no-one uses MSN search?

I think they may just analyze indexed content for much longer before making updates, allow time to taking history and traffic into consideration.

I don't know - I just think their algorithm is totally different. Top key words for my site are "music theory" - I come in at no.36 on Yahoo and 40 on MSN, whereas I don't feature in the top 100 for Google (although I do well for other keywords). My site has been up just over a year. It's a big mystery to me!

Traditionally MSN has been the easiest search engine to get good rankings on. They don't care how spammy your website is, as long as you have enough links with good anchor text. Both Google and Yahoo are known to care about aging of the domain and its links.

I would think your link building strategies would have an effect on whether you get good rankings on MSN or Google first. if you opt for link quantity MSN will love you. If you opt for quality instead Google will love you. So it depends on what you focus on more and where you get your links.

I hope you're not insinuating that my website is spammy! It most certainly is not!

I don't put any effort into "link-building" as an art (well, minimal). I put all my effort into the content of my site and don't have many back-links but they are good ones i.e from universities. So, since I have only a few links but they are good, why do I get on Yahoo and MSN but not on Google? If what you're saying is true I should be on Google but not Yahoo/MSN!
