hi all,

i am surprised everyday at how crap VS2005 is. i have only been using for a while now but seems to be so poor quality, unnessercerily complicated and generally bug ridden that i hope this is the last project i will have to work with it on.

why is there a "Microsoft" Layer between what you are writing on the screen and the html that comes out.?

one of the funniest things to me is the "publish website" button. this is a bit of a shock after using dreamweaver which actaully edits the html etc directly, and doesnt need to convert your project at the end.

any way........

i have a background image that is tiling. i have a hyperlink microSoft box thingy which doesnt display the background image. it displays the background color set in body css but doesnt show the backround image in .navbar css.

how crap is this?????

You can. Just switch to source view by clicking the button that says 'Source' at the bottom left of the editor. VS genrally won't modify any of your own code unless you specifically modify that element through the editor.

I personally don't use the editor at all, I'm almost always in Source view. Unlike other programs, VS is very nice in the fact that it won't modify my code at all, or change my indenting style.

VS2005 is a fantastic peice of software if you use it correctly

i tryed this. and that doesnt work either.
vs is still pants!!! ethically and morally it doesnt work either. but lets not go in to that.....

its still uses the wrong CSS.

basically i have a navbar 30px high. with a background image 30px high and 1px wide repeated across the width of the nav bar.

ok nothing to fancy so far.

when i write text, fine. the background image is still there.

when i put a hyperlink on the nav bar it (the hyperlink) shows as white text on a white background. im pritty sure its getting the background color from the body css and the text color from the .navbar css.

any ideas of how to fix this?

ok, i checked my css and hyperlinks in body had a white background so this was cascading down.

problem solved.

my comments on vs2005 still stand though.

it is still very buggy and that doesnt fill me with conferdence when using.

i have 100% conferdence in dreamweaver
