Well, he is asking a legitimate question. Spam is when you post your link when it is not needed just to get traffic. Usually in an introduction post, as long as you include enough about you no-one will get upset by you mentioning websites you own or like. If you just list them and say nothing else about yourself, people might call you on it.

It can also be just senseless posting for no reason. Or if you have a link in your sig and you make a ton of pointless posts. It is ok though IMO for you to list a site of yours that you have a question about or if someone requests a type of site and you own one.

That is what spam is.

I think spam is distracting or interrupting just to push in an unrelated sales point.
