I've had a home-based business for 20+ years. There are pros and cons, like anything else.
Pros:
I don't have to get dressed
I don't have to drive anywhere
When work is slow or I need a break, I can always find something productive/relaxing to do somewhere else in the house
I can monitor the home situation while working
I can fit personal time in around work without having to ask permission to get time off or explain to everyone what's going on in my personal life
The view from the window is better
You don't have to put up with annoying coworkers
Cons:
You never leave the office
You have to work harder to develop and maintain outside interests and friends because working at home is very isolating - that or all your "friends" are virtual and you never meet them IRL
Up until the last 5 years or so, having a home-based business was synonymous with "pin money" and WAHM and didn't get much respect
All in all, at this point I don't think I could work in an office again. I've had people assume they could acquire me and my company but nobody's made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I mean - it would take a LOT to get me to put on shoes and drive to an office and spend all day in a windowless cubicle.
